I don't know if I have mentioned it here, but we are so incredibly proud of our son-in-law, Dom, and daughter, Shelby, for making a wise decision to homeschool their boys this year. It was homeschool or put them public school where they would be in a plastic cubicle while wearing a mask all year. Easy choice...but for two busy parents it was still quite the commitment. Sensibly, they chose to homeschool with another family to foster accountability and community. Shelby and her good friend, Amy, have taught Oliver, Ruby and Clark well all year long. Another excellent choice they made was to combine learning with outdoor play. This allowed the children to gain more than just an education. They also received:
I would like to share with you some of their fun outdoor learning games: 1. Take your Math from the book to the pavement. A little chalk can make addition problems and counting by 2's more fun than ever! 2. Learning to tell time with a clock on a wall is a fine way to learn, BUT how much more fun is it to be outdoors writing the big and little hands when prompted by mom to produce the time of 2:30. Great job, Ruby! 3. Learning SITE WORDS takes discipline and memorization. The two games below can turn it from monotony to joy. a. Put the site words in boxes and RACE YOUR FRIEND TO THE TOP. This incorporates reading speed and fluency practice along with competitiveness . This game should be played once the site words are very familiar. b. In the picture below, the child will JUMP TO THE SITE WORD that their mom challenges them to find. c. You can also see a 'HOPSCOTCH' game in the foreground of this picture. Have your child throw a rock into an square on the board, hop up to the rock, read the word then throw again and repeat the reading. ALL OF THESE GAME COMBINE SUNSHINE, EXERCISE AND LEARNING. THANK YOU SHELBY AND AMY FOR YOUR CREATIVE GENIUS! My grandchildren smile non-stop while learning. Feeling so very thankful! PLEASE KEEP READING FOR AN UPDATE ON MY BOOK PUBLISHING JOURNEY: Hide and Seek Scriptures Book One is coming soon!! HIDE AND SEEK SCRIPTURES BOOK PUBLISHING UPDATE: What a journey it has been. Now that I am on the publishing train, I see once again why people say the writing a book is like giving birth. There are many stages and none of them are exactly easy. It takes patience! Right now I have finished revising the transcript, and the editors are fine tuning the grammar and punctuation. You feel like your eyes can see every mistake. You read it over and over out loud, but you and the editors constantly see little important elements that need tweaking. I am hoping to send the fully edited transcript to the illustrators within the next month. Please keep praying! I HAVE BEEN SO BLESSED BY SOME LOVELY COMMENTS THAT LET ME KNOW I AM ON THE RIGHT TRACK WITH THIS HEART PROJECT:
LORD, PLEASE CONTINUE TO GUIDE US AS WE SEEK A QUALITY EDUCATION OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND SPIRITUALLY. HELP US TO IMPLEMENT OUTDOOR PLAY AS WE COMBINE LEARNING METHODS WITH HEALTHY OUTLETS FOR WIGGLY LITTLE ONES.
